Donetsk region plays a key role for the budget of Ukraine, accounting for 9.1%, or almost Hr 27 billion, of the revenues of the consolidated budget in 2013, First Deputy Income and Tax Minister Ihor Bilous said.

“Let’s value what we’ve got… Donetsk region accounts for 9% of the
consolidated budget [in terms of revenues],” he said at a press
conference on Thursday.

As was reported, Russia occupied Crimea early this year. Shortly
after those events Donetsk region started to be faced with a separatist
rebellion allegedly backed up by Russian saboteurs. This week, Ukrainian
armed forces launched a counter-terrorism operation in the region.

Donetsk region channeled Hr 6.3 billion to the budget in the first quarter of 2014, Bilous said.

Yet, he failed to disclose details of the revenues and outlays Donetsk region contributes to the national budget.

Bilous also reported about the beginning of seizures of tax agencies’
buildings located in the districts where separatists are present.

He said that payment by companies located in the districts to the budget of separatists’ groups is out of the question.

“We’re doing our best to prevent the damage of our inspectorate premises in those districts where shootings continue,” he said.

“We’ve also got small units that are now being sent to those areas
where tensions are high with the mission to protect and safeguard the
people who are there,” he added.
