You're reading: Interior Ministry: Body of man resembling killer of security guards in Karavan shopping mall found in Kyiv

The body of a man resembling the suspect in the murder of the guards of the Karavan shopping center Yaroslav Mazurok, was found in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to preliminary police inquiry findings, the man committed suicide, the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reported.

The police said that a resident of Kyiv found the body while walking the dog in the morning.

Investigators immediately left for the site. They established that the man died of a gunshot wound. A gun was found lying nearby.

The deceased was in possession of a passport in the name of Mazurok.

The police say that they took a sample of the man’s DNA to determine whether he was indeed Mazurok.

As reported, a robber shot dead three employees of a private security firm and seriously wounded another one in the Karavan shopping mall on Luhova Street in Kyiv on September 26. One of the security guards saw a visitor stealing an item from a glass case. The guard asked the man to go to the back room, where other guards were waiting. In the room the man pulled out a gun and started shooting, killing three security guards on the spot and seriously wounding a fourth. The attacker then fled the scene.

The Obolon District Police Office has opened a criminal case on the incident. The suspect was put on the wanted lists in Russia and Belarus

Executive Director of Karavan Serhiy Kyslenko promised UAH 100,000 for assistance in finding the suspect.

On October 5, Ukrainian Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko stated that the killer of three security guards from the Karavan shopping mall in Kyiv was Yaroslav Mazurok, a native of Lviv region, born in 1974, who previously worked at private security firms.
