The Ukrainian Interior Ministry is not planning to close a criminal case against Luhansk City Council deputy Roman Landik, who was filmed on CCTV attacking model Maria Korshunova in a restaurant.

“We will not close this case, because there was a crime in Landik’s actions,” Deputy Interior Minister Vasyl Farynnyk said on Wednesday.

He noted that even if it is assumed that the injured party had received some compensation from Landik, this situation does not fall under civil law relations.

Farynnyk also predicted that the victim could only ask the court to pass a more lenient sentence on her attacker than the one envisaged in current legislation.

According to the earlier reports, Landik could avoid jail time after Korshunova agreed to sign an amicable agreement retracting claims against him.

Korshunova, who was hospitalized for with concussion and bruises after the July attack, signed the agreement on Oct. 31.
