The Interior Ministry is verifying the circumstances of the attack by unknown assailants on Svoboda part member Andriy Illienko and his lawyer Sydir Kizin. The head of the ministry’s press service in Kyiv, Olha Bilyk, spoke on the matter, Ukrainian News reports.

“The information about the incident has been included into the single register of investigative proceedings. A group of investigators is already in place. A chief from the nearest territorial militia station is questioning the affected persons,” she said.

Law enforcement officials deny that the attack took place directly in front of the police station on Prorizna St.

“The attack was not near the entrance to the police station, … because there are video cameras there. Had militia officers seen the incident, they would have come out and helped. The attack occurred when Illienko was already walking down Prorizna St.,” Bilyk said.

According to her, the police arrived on the scene as soon as possible.

Illienko and Kizin were attacked by at least 10 people after leaving the police station where they had been interrogated regarding events on January 1.
