The Interior Ministry of Ukraine has stated it hopes that the political forces that are planning to hold rallies on the Independence Day of Ukraine in Kyiv will not disturb public order.
"We hope for cooperation and understanding from the political forces, and that there will be no conflicts and violations of public order," the head of the main headquarters of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine, Anatoliy Lazarev, said during a press conference in Kyiv on Aug. 22.
According to him, as of Aug. 22, Kyiv City State Administration had received 18 applications for holding various unofficial events and rallies on Kyiv on Aug. 24.
Lazarev stressed that times and places of some of these events coincide with those of state events.
He also expressed hope that a court would issues a ruling restricting all events apart from state ones, and that political forces would agree to cooperate and decide not to hold their events at the same time and at the same place as state events are to be held.
Lazarev said 500 Berkut detachment officers from other regions of the country would be involved in maintaining public order along with the main department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Berkut officers will work in reserve regime and will respond to any emergencies.
Ukraine will mark its 20th Independence Day on Aug. 24.
