You're reading: International military monitoring mission starts working in Ukraine

Another international military observer mission, initiated by Holland, has been sent to Ukraine, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported. "On April 12 2014, in line with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Vienna document on trust and security-building measures, an international military inspection mission arrived in Ukraine at Holland's initiative," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a press briefing.

The mission is comprised of military experts from the Netherlands,
Sweden, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Belgium and Luxembourg, he said.

“The military experts will travel to southeastern regions on a
fact-finding mission to uncover untypical military activities or
provocations, if any, aimed at upsetting stability in Ukraine,” he said.

This inspection will continue the practice of monitoring the
situation in Ukraine in compliance with the Vienna document on trust and
security building measures, started on March 5, he also said.

In the current setting, Ukraine welcomes the permanent monitoring of
the situation and wants to continue using the opportunities deriving
from the Vienna document in order to ensure the permanent presence of
military observers on its territory until the situation gets back to
normal, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
