An international police cooperation center, which began its work at the National Academy of Internal Affairs of Ukraine ahead of Euro 2012, will be used further for the training of peacekeepers, Ukrainian Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko has said.

"We’re planning to continue to use this facility for training UN peacekeepers – our fellow police officers," he said in Kyiv on Thursday, while answering reporters’ questions after a video link-up with Polish police on the opening of Euro 2012.

The minister said that this center was now working on interacting with police officers from other states. Its work makes it possible to monitor the situation with law and order during Euro 2012 and thus ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens.

"We intentionally placed this center at the Academy of Internal Affairs so as to further use it for the training of police personnel," Zakharchenko said.

He expressed hope that police officers from other countries who came to Kyiv to cooperate with Ukrainian police during the holding of the championship would be able work comfortably and conveniently at this center.
