Ivano-Frankivsk – Ivano-Frankivsk City Council has stated that the law of Ukraine on the principles of the state language policy is void on the territory of the city council.

The city council approved a relevant letter to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine at a sitting on Thursday.

“We, the deputies of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, state that the law of Ukraine No. 5029-VI on the principles of the state language policy is void on the territory of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, as long as we obey the main law of Ukraine – the Constitution of Ukraine – and not unconstitutional laws,” reads the letter.

Earlier, Ivano-Frankivsk City Council has demanded the parliament to remove the language law from its agenda.
