Kyiv, December 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The wife of former Acting Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Ivaschenko, Valentyna, has refuted a statement by Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka that her husband, who is currently held in jail, is receiving the necessary medical treatment.

"Valeriy Volodymyrovych [Ivaschenko] was examined outside jail and this is the only thing that reflects reality in what Pshonka said about the health of my husband… As for the treatment that the prosecutor general was talking about to all people and the whole country, such treatment was not provided before this day in or outside jail," she said.

As reported, on December 22, Pshonka described accusations against the State Penitentiary Service of improper medical care to Ivaschenko as biased.

"[Former Interior Minister Yuriy] Lutsenko and Ivaschenko were examined by doctors of the penitentiary service outside prison," he said.

As reported, on August 20, 2010, the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against Ivaschenko under Part 2, Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or office).

Late in November 2009, Ivaschenko signed a bailout plan concerning the sale of the property of the Defense Ministry’s state-owned enterprise Feodosiya Ship and Mechanical Plant, including strategically important infrastructure facilities.
