Former Acting Defense Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Ivaschenko has been transferred from the medical unit of the detention facility to a general cell due to the completion of his treatment, according to the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine.

"The reason for his transfer is the completion of his treatment, as well as relevant acts of documents, which, in particular, contain the patient’s confirmation of improvement of his health condition. Thus, the press service rejects information of [Ivaschenko’s] lawyers, according to which Ivaschenko was transferred without warning and a relevant conclusion of doctors," reads a statement on the Web site of the penitentiary service.

Earlier, Ivaschenko’s defense lawyer Borys Nechyporenko informed that his client was transferred to a cell.

"I was really surprised to discover that on Friday, when Ivaschenko returned from Pechersky District Court, where he read the protocol of the court process, they transferred him from the medical unit, where he was undergoing medical treatment upon recommendations of doctors, to a general cell without any explanations," Nechyporenko said.

According to the lawyer, his client was not even allowed to "take his personal things from the medical unit" and employees of the detention facility brought him his stuff at midnight.

As reported, on April 12, 2012 Pechersky District Court of Kyiv sentenced Ivaschenko to five years of imprisonment and deprived him of a right to hold public posts for three years.
