You're reading: Judicial reform to be based on Venice Commission recommendations

Deputy Head of Ukraine's presidential administration Andriy Portnov met on Tuesday with Chairman of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, and Secretary of the Commission Thomas Markert, the presidential press service reported.

The Ukrainian delegates thanked the representatives of the Venice Commission for the latest recommendations concerning the country’s laws on judicial system and expressed hope to strengthen the cooperation with the commission.

Portnov noted that the recommendations of the Venice Commission will become the basis for the following legislative work on reforming the constitutional principles of the judicial system.

The deputy head of the presidential administration also met with experts from the Directorate General for Human Rights and Legal Affairs to discuss the preparations of the draft of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine and Ukrainian laws on the Prosecutor’s Office and Legal Profession.
