Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Nina Karpachova believes that the further court hearings into the case of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine corporation, which require the presence of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, can be held only after the ex-premier undergoes medical treatment.

"As an ombudsperson, I would like to point out that when Yulia Volodymyrivna is directly involved in the trial, it is necessary to comply with Rule 39 of the Rules of the European Court of Human Rights and allow Tymoshenko to undergo proper medical treatment," she told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.

"This is where I stand. But I’m not sure whether this is the position of our national courts," Karpachova added.
