Leader of the UDAR party Vitaliy Klitschko went to the Kyiv city council and urged Maidan self-defense representatives, who occupy the premises, to let new Kyiv authorities work and make decisions necessary for Kyiv.

“We have seen each other in different situations – at rallies and barricades, day and night. Thank you for what you have done. Many people are here, for whom the Kyiv mayor’s office has become their home. But today we have changed authorities – Ukrainians have elected a president, Kyiv residents have elected a mayor and Kyiv council. And we need Kyiv and the country to return to a peaceful life and start carrying out reforms,” the UDAR press office quoted Klitschko as saying on Tuesday.

Kyiv residents elected 120 Kyiv city council deputies, who need to hold meetings, work and make decisions necessary for the capital, and they have nowhere to work because the Kyiv city council building is taken by Maidan self-defense activists, Klitschko said. “That is why I ask every one of you to give the Kyiv council opportunity to work and to build the power vertical in Kyiv,” he said.

“No one wanted to put anyone to the street” and people, who are in the Kyiv council now and who need residence, could find other premises, where they could stay temporarily, Klitschko said.

Klitschko has examined the Kyiv council, in particular, its meeting hall. As of today, voting systems are not working, furniture and equipment are smashed. Complete repair is needed to begin comprehensive work of the mayor’s office.
