The leader of the UDAR opposition party, former world heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko, has described the letter of resignation handed in by Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov as a face-saving measure.

“The issue of the government’s resignation and the issue of the
government’s liability are on today’s agenda. I am certain this
[resignation statement] is not accidental. He knows that he will do
everything he can to save face,” Klitschko told reporters on Tuesday.

“We have been saying for many months that what has been happening on
the streets is also a result of the current government’s work. It is not
a victory. It is a step towards it,” he added.
