Poland is continuing to try to persuade Europe that Ukraine needs to be given a chance to join the European Union, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has said.

“You have to make a choice [between the Customs Union and the
European Union], and it is up to Ukraine to make this choice. Poland can
only help. Poland can also try to persuade the Western world, the
European Union, that Ukraine should be given such an opportunity and, in
fact, this is what we’re doing,” Komorowski told reporters after the
talks with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in Kyiv on Thursday.

Asked which of the two scenarios is most suitable for Ukraine –
membership in the Customs Union or in the European Union, the Polish
president said that Ukraine could not realize both scenarios
simultaneously.

“The simultaneous or parallel implementation of the two scenarios is impossible,” Komorowski said.
