You're reading: Kyiv books over 10,000 beds for Euro 2012 fans

The Hamalia Travel Company had booked over 10,000 beds to accomdate fans during the Euro 2012 European Football Championship as of June 1, 2011, Kyiv City State Administration has said in a press release.

"Hamalia has already signed contracts for the accommodation of more than 10,000 fans. In general, it is planned to sign contracts for the accommodation of about 20,000 fans," the administration’s press service quoted Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Anatoliy Holubchenko as saying.

In total, from 150,000 to 200,000 fans are expected to arrive in Kyiv for Euro 2012.

Holubchenko also said that a working group had been set up to draft a list of the dormitories of universities in Kyiv and Kyiv region that could be used to accommodate fans.

The issue concerns dormitories that can be used without making repairs and dormitories that need repairs and overhauls.

He said that over 6,000 rooms out of the 7,300 required had currently been booked in hotels in Kyiv, in particular, about 800 rooms in five-star hotels, over 1,800 rooms in four-star hotels, and about 3,600 rooms in three-star hotels.

Holubchenko also said that eight hotels with 1,683 rooms were to be commissioned in the city by the end of 2011, in particular, the Fairmont, a hotel on Obolonska Naberezhna Street, the Staro, Holiday Inn, Leipzig, Ibis, Park Hotel, and a hotel on Predslavynska Street.

"Construction work on the Fairmont, a hotel on 35 Predslavynska Street, and the Staro, Leipzig and Ibis is almost complete, and work is continuing on their interiors. Other hotels are at the final stages of construction," he said.
