You're reading: Kyiv hopes that France will not lift sanctions from Russia now

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has taken note of the resolution adopted by the French Senate on softening the sanctions against Russia and said Kyiv sees no reason for a revision of lifting of the sanctions.

“The French Senate resolution calling for gradual softening of the sanctions indicates insufficient realization by the senators of how deeply Russia has violated international law […] There are currently no grounds for a revision or lifting of the sanctions imposed on this state,” the Foreign Ministry said in a commentary posted on its website on June 9.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the international sanctions imposed against Russia were a consequences of actions against a sovereign state and are aimed at “bringing the Russian Federation back to the international law space.’

The Foreign Ministry also said it is hoping that France will continue supporting the sanctions against Russia.

“We are hoping that France as country guaranteeing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in accordance with the 1994 Budapest memorandum, and an active participant in the Normandy process will firmly stand on the positions of international law and respect for European values, and will continue supporting the international efforts for the purpose of stopping the Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the commentary said.
