The Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office in Kyiv has opened criminal proceedings on charges of disorderly conduct into a brawl that took place on Independence Square, also known as the Maidan, in the early hours of Monday, in which several people were injured.
“The proceedings were opened under Part 4, Article 296 of the Criminal Code – disorderly conduct with the use of firearms or knives,” the press service of the Kyiv police told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.
As reported, a conflict broke out between activists on the Maidan early on July 7. Doctors subsequently reported that they had received a man with a gunshot wound. A police team that left for the hospital found out that this was a wound from a rubber bullet gun. Three similar reports were received later.
“The police received no official statements from the victims,” the Shevchenkivsky district department of police in Kyiv reported, adding that in any case the police will investigate the circumstances of the incident.
