You're reading: Lawmaker proposes to link excise duty on beer to alcohol content

MP Pavlo Klymets (Regions Party faction) has proposed to introduce link the excise duty imposed on beer to its alcohol content, in particular, instead of today's Hr 0.81 per liter to set it at Hr 46 per liter of 100% spirit.

Draft law No. 10331 was registered in the parliament.

According to an explanatory note to the draft, the present excise duty on beer is too low compared to duties on other alcohol drinks.

The author of the draft says that the leveling of taxation could lead to the increase in the price of beer by 10% on average.

In addition, the document proposes to increase excise duties on other types of alcohol products, in particular, for fortified wine – from Hr 2.33 to Hr 2.59 per liter, for sparkling wine – from UAH 3.38 to UAH 3.76 per liter, vermouths – from Hr 2.33 to Hr 2.59 per liter, cider and Perry (with added alcohol) – from Hr 45.87 to Hr 46 per liter, cider and Perry (without added alcohol) – from Hr 0.46 to Hr 0.51 per liter, ethyl spirit – from Hr 45.87 to Hr 46 per liter of 100% spirit.

The author of the draft also proposed to resend funds from the collection of 1.5% fee for the development of viticulture, horticulture and hop growing in 2012 to the general fund of the national budget to fulfill social initiatives.
