The depriving of former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko of the right to a defense in court sessions on charges brought against him is a proven fact, his lawyer, Ihor Fomin, has said.

“The court rejects any motions from the defense team. The absence of a
defense in our trials is a proven fact. I believe that today there is
no justice in Ukraine… and Ukraine should probably do something about
that,” he told reporters on Friday, July 27, after a court meeting on charges of
official negligence brought against Lutsenko in extending operational
and search activities in relation to Valentyn Davydenko, the driver of
former SBU Deputy Chief Volodymyr Satsiuk.

Fomin noted that throughout the entire hearing of the case, Pechersky
District Court had not called a single witness from the defense team
and had not requested a single document, as the defense team and the
ex-minister had insisted.
