Former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, who is currently held in custody in the Lukyanivka detention center, has received the right to watch TV programs on Channel 5, the press service of Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Nina Karpachova reported on Feb.11.

Karpachova personally met with over 300 detainees in Kyiv detention center in Lukyanivka.

"Some [detainees] complained about the illegality of their arrest and long-term custody. Some lacked a bed and they were forced to sleep in turns. Some asked to be moved from cells with smokers due to their ill health. Some demanded the access to a lawyer and psychologist. Some needed urgent surgery outside the detention center," reads a report.

A lot of issues are being resolved, according to the press service.

"In particular, due to the intervention of the human rights commissioner, the leadership of the detention center finally provided the access to TV programs on Channel 5 to former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko," reads the report.

This week the human rights commissioner will continue monitoring the observance of the rights of detainees in Kyiv’s Lukyanivka detention center.
