Former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, who is serving a prison term at Mena Penal Colony No. 91 in Chernihiv region, has said he is ready to work with the prisoners and is not expecting preferential treatment.

“I’m ready to do everything that the prisoners of this colony have to do. I don’t need any indulgences and privileges. Moreover, I’m ready to use the sewing work offered to me as a continuation of my political activity. I think that canvas mittens signed “Ukraine’s Destiny is in Your Hands” and my signature will be some nice propaganda material during the present pre-election campaign,” ex-minister said in an interview with Focus magazine on Friday.

Besides, Lutsenko said that he would continue his political career in future.

“I haven’t finished my career as a politician. On the contrary, everything interesting only starts after two convictions in our country, and that’s why we’ll postpone memoirs. Right after the elections I’ll start work on an organization of democratic voters named “For a New President.” Now I’m contacting like-minded persons, and we’re preparing an action plan,” he said.

It was reported earlier that Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court found Lutsenko guilty of a number of counts of abuse of office and sentenced him to four years in prison on February 27, 2012. In addition, the same court found Lutsenko guilty of negligence and sentenced him to two years in prison on August 17, 2012.

The ex-minister was detained on December 26, 2010. On August 31, 2012, he was taken to the penitentiary in Chernihiv region.
