Former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko's release from prison on April 7 was welcomed by Western leaders and opposition members in Ukraine alike. The European Union has long appealed for Ukraine to end the use of selective justice against opposition figures, including former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

But is it enough to convince EU leaders, who have set a May deadline for
major progress to be made if the Association Agreement with Ukraine is to
be signed this year? Failure now could mean years of delays.

The Kyiv Post asks David Stulik, press officer at the EU delegation to
Ukraine, Olesya Orobets, member of parliament from the Batkivschyna
faction, and Kateryna Zarembo, deputy director at the Institute of World
Policy, what it will take for Ukraine to convince Europe about its good
intentions – and whether it still has enough time.
