Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has to send to parliament a letter with his proposals on the language bill, and their discussion and passing will provide a way out of the current situation, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.

“We have to find a solution. We should have formed an expert group from the very beginning, so that every faction could send its representative to the group… Experts in the sphere of languages should work on the bill,” Lytvyn said on Friday in an interview with the Rada Channel, while commenting on the current situation with the language bill.

“I think we should have done this. The president of Ukraine has said that he also thinks that a number of amendments and corrections should be added [to the bill], and moreover, as far as I know, many people who have the right to express their opinion due to their influence in society, have addressed him. We could do it in the following way – the president should send a letter to the Verkhovna Rada saying that he respects their [the parliament’s] decision. At the same time, he should ask them to revise the first, second, and third proposals on their decision. I am not calling it a bill, it’s a decision. In turn, the opposition will be obliged not to block the parliament and take part in discussions on the issue,” he said.

Lytvyn added that amendments that were submitted by people’s deputies earlier should also be considered.
