You're reading: Media: Ukrainian says he is to blame for bus crash in France

A Ukrainian citizen has said he was responsible for a deadly bus crash in the south of France, Echo of Moscow radio station reported.  

The thirty-year-old Ukrainian confessed that he wanted the driver to stop the bus and deliberately twisted the steering wheel, the attorney of the city of Narbonne said. Investigators plan to examine the Ukrainian for evidence of mental illness.

French news agencies reported earlier that a Eurolines bus crashed in southern France, leaving two passengers, a Spanish man and woman, dead and 30 others seriously injured.

The accident occurred at 0130 on Sunday on the A-9 motorway in Aude. The bus was traveling from Marseille to Murcia, Spain.

The bus was driven by a team of three drivers – French, Spanish and Ukrainian citizens. It was reportedly carrying 44 passengers from Russia, Ukraine, Spain and France.

Head of the Ukrainian Consulate in Marseille Viacheslav Vozdihan said that, according to preliminary information, one Ukrainian was injured in the accident.
