A memorandum of cooperation on social protection of Chornobyl cleanup workers between the government of Ukraine and Chornobyl cleanup participants has been fulfilled by 90%, reelected chairman of the All-Ukrainian non-governmental organization of invalids Chornobyl Union of Ukraine Yuriy Andreyev said at a report and election conference of the organization on Saturday.

Andreev noted that some Chornobyl cleanup workers had recently fallen victims to political manipulation, the government’s press service reported. He said that the veterans were used by some political forces.

When talking about pensions to Chornobyl cleanup workers, Andreyev said "Pensions should be decent and fair, depending on the degree of risk they ran during the disaster cleanup operation."

As regards the execution of court rulings concerning the payments of compensations to Chornobyl cleanup workers, the head of Chornobyl Union of Ukraine said that these decisions should certainly be executed, but their implementation should not violate the rights of other citizens.

"Court rulings should not be executed at the expense of stopping payments to other categories of Chornobyl cleanup participants," Andreyev said.

According to him, they reached compromise on all the key issues, which raised concern of Chornobyl cleanup workers. The government approved documents which stipulate for the increase and payment of pensions to this group of citizens.
