German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that sanctions against Russia must stay in place until Russia fully implements the Minsk agreement.

Speaking in Berlin prior to the talks with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Merkel said that the sanctions, which were put in place due to Russia’s involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, could only be lifted once a year-old ceasefire clinched in Minsk is fully implemented.

“One has to say that unfortunately we still don’t have a sustainable ceasefire, which is naturally a prerequisite for the implementation of different points in the Minsk agreement,” Merkel said.

Besides, the Chancellor has said she hopes OSCE monitors soon will be admitted to all Donbas sites.
