BRUSSELS – The head of the European Union diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, has wished a swift recovery to Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko after her release from prison, and urged the parties to the Ukrainian conflict to use her release for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

“Finally, Nadia Savchenko is free and back in her country. The Ukrainian pilot has been released today from a Russian prison – in exchange for the release of two Russian prisoners, in an overdue gesture of human compassion,” Mogherini said in a statement released on May 25.

“The EU encourages all parties to build on these positive steps, and to implement the ‘Package of measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements’, including the commitment therein to release all hostages and detained persons related to the conflict in eastern Ukraine,” the EU diplomacy chief said.
