You're reading: NABU: Former acting rector of NAU Kharchenko and his middleman notified of suspicion

Former acting rector of the National Aviation University Volodymyr Kharchenko, who was caught when taking a bribe, and a lawyer, who acted as his middleman, were notified that they are suspected of committing crimes under part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (thee receipt of illegal benefits on a large scale, or committed by an official), the National Anti-Corruption Bureau has said.

“On August 27, the arrested acting rector of NAU and the intermediary (lawyer) were notified of suspicion under part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If they are found guilty by the court they face imprisonment from 8 to 12 years with confiscation of property, and deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions and engage in certain activities for up to three years,” the NABU press service said on Saturday.

As reported, on August 26, law-enforcers detained the acting rector of the National Aviation University when he was taking a bribe of about Hr 3 million(100,000).

On the same day, the Education and Science Ministry of Ukraine dismissed Kharchenko from his post.

On Saturday morning, August 27, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau detectives during a search at Kharchenko’s place seized cash worth a total of about Hr 5 million (Hr 1.5 million, $50,000, €70,000, £3,000 and other currency), as well as nine gold ingots weighing from 2 to 20 grams.
