The prospect of Ukraine joining the Kremlin-led Customs Union wasn’t discussed and no bilateral documents were signed during President Viktor Yanukovych’s Dec. 6 meeting in Sochi with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the official Ukrainian presidential website states.

“No signing of documents
during the meeting was planned and nothing was signed,” the presidential website states,
adding that no discussions were held regarding Ukraine possibly joining the
Customs Union with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

The two did discuss,
however, cooperation in industry, high-technology sectors and the financial and
loan spheres. Special attention focused on cooperation in the energy sector
between Ukraine and Russia.
