An explosion of mortar killed one soldier and wounded eight during the military exercises at the Shyroky Lan training range in Mykolaiv Oblast on July 25 morning.

“[This happened] at around 11.00 a.m. on July 25 at the Shyroky Lan training range, Mykolaiv region, when a 120-mm mortar exploded. According to preliminary information, one serviceman was killed, two were seriously injured, six lightly injured by the explosion,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on its Facebook page.

The circumstances of the accident are being established.

The second stage of the large-scale command and staff exercises South Wind 2016 kicked off in eastern Ukraine on July 25.
