You're reading: Opposition to vote before elections only for cancelation of law adopted by majority

The opposition is planning to participate only in voting on its draft resolutions for the cancelation of the previously adopted, and in its opinion, illegal documents, Deputy Parliament Speaker Mykola Tomenko has said.

“We decided that we would not vote for the bills that will be
considered at this session, expect for our resolutions, which concern
the cancellation of those bills that were voted with in blatant
violation of the rules of procedure and the constitution,” he said at a
briefing on the sidelines of the parliament on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Tomenko described as a PR move a statement by the leader of the
Regions Party faction in parliament, Oleksandr Yefremov, regarding the
party’s intention to vote for the bill on the cancellation of deputy
immunity.

He said that this bill requires amendments to the constitution and at
least 300 votes in favor. In addition, the bill cannot be voted on at
the last session of the current parliament.

“If they want to organize such a vote, then it’s almost the same scam
as with [Web] cameras [at polling stations]… I understand that the
Regions Party has nothing to tell its voters. The situation is very bad,
so deputy immunity remains such an element, and they are terribly
worried about it,” Tomenko said.

Tomenko was elected to parliament on the list of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko.

Parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 28, 2012.
