You're reading: Organization of Islamic Cooperation supports territorial integrity of Ukraine

 Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad bin Amin Madani has said that 22 organization's country members support Ukraine and its territorial integrity.

On March 15, 2014 Mejlis of Crimean Tatar addressed a
letter to IOC Secretary General urging the biggest union of Muslim
states using its authority and influence to promote search of the
peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine. IOC, in turn, expressed
concern over the security and wellbeing of the Muslim Crimea Tatar
community of the peninsula regarding the recent events in Ukraine and
Crimea.

Amin Madani said this during the meeting with ex-chairman of Mejlis of
Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah
city in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

Special focus of the meeting was paid to political situation in
Ukraine and Crimea. The sides also discussed the priority directions of
international cooperation during the meeting initiated by IOC secretary
general, the official Web site of the Mejlis reported.

Madani pointed out the possibility and necessity for Ukraine to join
the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, adding that the constructive
dialogue and good-neighborly relations should become a norm for the
members of the international society.

In turn, Crimean Tatar leader stressed that OIC position towards
Ukraine is fully consistent with the principles and positions of Crimean
Tatars on the issue.

Moreover, the sides also discussed prospects for creation national schools in Crimea with the support of OIC member countries.

The possibility for Crimean Tatar students to study in universities
of the Islamic world and building of the national schools in Crimea
under support of OIC members states was also covered by representatives
of Crimean and Muslim interests.
