Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan has visited Kramatorsk to meet with SMM monitors working in the region and to receive the latest information about security levels from the Donetsk region state administration.

The sides discussed the issue of internally displaced persons and demining operations in the region, the OSCE SMM wrote on Facebook.

Apakan told the interlocutors that the SMM had been broadening the geography of its presence in the region, had been increasing the number of monitors and had been expanding its technical capacities for the sake of higher efficiency of monitoring and reporting.

The chief monitor thanked administration members for being cooperative and assured them that the main goal of the SMM operating within the limits of its mandate was to assist in normalization and stabilization in the country.

Apakan said they believed that peace was possible. Monitoring and reporting are the main tasks of the SMM, but the mission is also promoting dialogue on the ground and paying attention to humanitarian issues, he said.
