MINSK - At their meeting in Minsk members of the Contact Group on Ukraine have agreed on the exchange of over 50 captives in Donbas.

Speaking to journalists on Jan. 13, Martin Sajdik, who represents the Organization for Security and co-operation in Europe at the talks, said that the parties had expressed their intention to secure the release of over 50 people on both sides, with less than 25 to be released by the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and more than 25 by Ukraine, before or on Jan. 20.

He said he could not reveal the total number of captives held by each side.

As well as prisoner exchange, the humanitarian group also discussed how to make it easier for humanitarian aid deliveries and civilians to cross the line of contact with the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic.

Ukraine has agreed to consider opening a checkpoint for civilians and humanitarian cargoes in Luhansk Region, Sajdik said.
