You're reading: OSCE says stable truce in Donbas possible if forces separated

DONETSK - The fighting in Donbas can be stopped by pulling out the conflicting parties' troops, OSCE Deputy Chief Monitor to Ukraine Alexander Hug said.

Speaking to journalists, Hug said it became absolutely clear near Avdiyivka and Yasynuvata in the Donetsk region that the separation of the opposing forces is the only possible solution aimed at achieving a stable ceasefire.

The initiative could be proposed by the OSCE, but it should be supported by both parties, he said.

Hug also said he believed that the conflicting parties should decide on themselves on the locations where the forces must be pulled out in a priority manner.

From the practical standpoint, this should be done where the parties reach agreement on the possibility of such a pullout, while such steps perhaps are unreasonable where the situation is too complicated and multifaceted, he said.
