You're reading: OSCE to help raise awareness of Ukrainians about electoral procedures

A nationwide campaign on raising the awareness of voters in Ukraine about their legal rights and electoral procedures, which is supported by an OSCE project, has started on the eve of the parliamentary elections.

“Informing voters about their rights and the election process in a timely manner is an important precondition for holding democratic elections,” said Ambassador Madina Jarbussynova, the OSCE’s project coordinator in Ukraine.

According to a report posted on the OSCE Web site, the awareness campaign will address the voting procedure, home voting, the verification of voter lists, protection of the secrecy of the vote and the prevention of voter harassment and vote buying.

During the campaign, publications aimed at raising voter awareness will be produced and distributed, audio and video public service announcements broadcast, and a dedicated Web site developed.

The parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 28 2012.
