Over 1,000 people are taking part in a rally of opponents of the new Ukrainian authorities on Lenin Square in downtown Donetsk on Saturday.

Demonstrators are holding Russian flags, flags of the Russian Bloc party, and banners, some of them saying ” Donbass is with Russia,” ” Berkut is with the People, the People are with Berkut,” ” Donbass, Rise Up!” and others, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported from the scene.

A rally participant, who introduced himself as a member of the non-governmental organization Solidarity, explained to Interfax-Ukraine that, while the demonstrators want the east of Ukraine to remain part of the country, they “reserve the right to ask for Russia’s assistance if brown plague [Nazism] is propagated, in order to prevent this.”
