You're reading: Parliament rejects law obliging foreigners to submit biometric data to enter Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine has rejected a bill, that amends the law on the legal status of foreigners and individuals without citizenship and obliges foreigners to submit their biometric data while entering Ukraine.

Parliament passed the bill, while its speaker signed it on April 23, 2009. The Ukrainian president returned the document with his remarks to parliament on May 7, 2009.

The MPs refused to support presidential proposals to this bill.

However, they failed to override a presidential veto on this law, garnering the votes of only 210 MPs out of the 300 required.
