You're reading: Parliamentary committee approves bill on construction of new reactors at Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant

The Verkhovna Rada committee on the fuel and energy complex has approved a bill on the construction of the third and fourth reactors at Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

The committee took a respective decision at a meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Head of the Ukrainian State Nuclear Regulatory
Committee Olena Mykolaichuk noted that the question of using existing
structures at the construction site would be considered at the stage of a
detailed assessment of the project.

According to the chairman of the parliamentary committee on the fuel
and energy complex, Mykola Martynenko, the parliament intends to
consider the bill this week.

As reported, according to a feasibility study approved by the Cabinet
of Ministers, the construction of the third and fourth nuclear reactors
at Khmelnytsky NPP will cost Hr 40 billion. Of this amount, 80%
consists of a loan from Russia and 20% Energoatom’s own funds.

It is planned that the power units will be equipped with Russian VVER-1000-392 pressurized water reactors.
