Party of Regions MPs Oleksandr Stoyan and Yaroslav Sukhy have submitted a draft Labor Code to the Verkhovna Rada.

A respective bill, No. 2902, was registered on Monday, April 22.

The draft Labor Code consists of nine books (444 articles), as well as the final and transitional provisions.

“The need to adopt the Labor Code of Ukraine is stipulated by radical changes in the whole system of social relations that are taking place in Ukraine in connection with the formation of market relations and socio-economic reforms… The current Labor Code of Ukraine was adopted in 1971 and, despite the numerous changes introduced to it, it is outdated and does not meet current economic conditions,” reads an explanatory memorandum to the bill.

The document also notes that the principles of the development of a new code were the balance of the protective and industrial functions of labor law, the observance of established social standards in the sphere of labor, and the evolutionary path of labor legislation reform. The draft code envisages non-discrimination of workers by sex, race and political beliefs, as well as takes into account the peculiarities of the work of employees of small businesses, cooperatives, and other special categories of workers.
