You're reading: PM concerned about increase of electricity price for industry

The continuing increase in the price of electricity threatens the competitiveness of the Ukrainian economy, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said.

“From yesterday – Hr 1.47 (per kilowatt-hour). Are we creating the competitive economy or are we setting crippling prices that could have serious consequences for the economy?” he said, opening a government meeting in Kyiv on Friday.

The prime minister ordered to study what the growth is and how long it will last.Groysman said that the independent regulator – the National Commission for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) – sets the price. However, the government cannot stand apart in the current situation, and it will give its public position on the issue.

“I believe that the Rotterdam plus scheme is unacceptable,” he said.

Late April 2015 the commission started applying the new scheme for setting the forecast wholesale market price of electricity. The price at the Rotterdam port plus the transportation cost to Ukraine is presently used.
