KYIV, Jan. 26 – A group of individuals dressed in police uniform and wearing masks on Wednesday night demolished an anti-presidential protest camp in the town of Sniatyn, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, UNIAN reported on Thursday.
According to Tetyana Chornovilm, press secretary UNA-UNSO, the group produced no documents and provided no explanation for their actions.
Around 10 protesters from the local unit of UNA-UNSO, a party of far-right activists, were beaten and taken to an unknown location, Chornovil said.
Anti-presidential protests erupted in December, following allegations that President Leonid Kuchma was involved in the disappearance of Georgy Gongadze, a journalist who went missing in Kyiv in September.
Both the popular demonstrations and the tent camps are part of a nationwide protest action organized under the Ukraine Without Kuchma banner. Thousands have demanded the president’s resignation within the context of the action.
