Police in Mykolaiv have detained 23 participants in last night's clashes, a posting on the local website Nikvesti said, citing the city police department's press service.

“Among them are representatives of the two opposing groups,” the press service said, according to Nikvesti. Twenty-two truncheons, three pistols and several knives were seized. All activists were charged with hooliganism,” Nikvesti writes.

The daily Nikoklayevskiye Novosti earlier wrote, citing the regional health authorities’ press service, that 15 people were injured in clashes early on Tuesday. The city police department in turn said that more than 20 sustained injuries during the storm of the city administration building and in a clash near the war memorial.

Pro-Russian activists holding a Russian flag attempted to seize control of the city administration headquarters at 1800 on Monday and they demanded that that a referendum be called. Police formed a triple cordon to protect the regional government. Protestors subsequently set up a tented camp near the war memorial, where clashes occurred with members of the pro-Ukrainian People’s Regiment.
