Activists that were detained during a celebration of the 8th anniversary of the Orange Revolution on Independence Square in Kyiv have been released from the capital's Shevchenkivsky district police station on the intervention of a people's deputy.

According to the Ukrainska Pravda online publication, all of the detainees wrote explanatory notes and protocols on their violations were drawn up. They were charged with jaywalking and ignoring the lawful demands of police officers.

In particular, administrative protocols were drawn up on violations of rules of holding peaceful events by the organizers of the rally, Mykola Kokhanovsky and Serhiy Melnychenko.

Ukrainska Pravda learned from a source in the police that the detainees were supposed to be kept in a detention facility until a court hearing of their case on Friday.

As reported, seven people were detained on Thursday, November 22, during an event to mark the 8th anniversary of the Orange Revolution. A Russian citizen was among them.

The Orange Revolution mass protests resulted in the revision of the results of the allegedly rigged 2004 presidential election, and in liberal politician Viktor Yuschenko becoming president in early 2005.
