You're reading: Poll: One in three Ukrainians thinks Tymoshenko is opposition leader

One in three Ukrainians believe that Ukraine's imprisoned former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is the opposition leader, according to a survey conducted by the Razumkov Center in April 2013.

According to the survey, 31.6 percent of respondents named Tymoshenko the leader of the Ukrainian opposition, 22.9 percent named Batkivschyna faction leader Arseniy Yatseniuk, 8.9 percent UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko, 7.7 percent Svoboda leader Oleh Tiahnybok, 2.3 percent Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko, 1.6 percent MP Anatoliy Hrytsenko, and 0.9 percent former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko.

Tymoshenko was most often named the opposition leader by the residents of western, central and southern regions in Ukraine, and residents of eastern regions equally described Tymoshenko and Yatseniuk as opposition leader.

In addition, 36.3 percent of respondents believe that the effectiveness of the opposition’s activity has not changed in the new convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, 31.4 percent believe that the effectiveness of the opposition’s activity has increased, and 16.6 precent believe that it has decreased.

The survey was conducted from April 12 to April 16 in all regions in Ukraine. A total of 2,010 people were interviewed. The poll’s margin of error does not exceed 2.3 precent.
