Over a quarter of the population of large cities in Ukraine are in favor of local elections being held in the breakaway parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in accordance with the Ukrainian laws, according to the findings of a social survey, conducted by SocioStream AG on June 9-27, which were unveiled at an Interfax press conference in Kyiv on July 1.

Those who think the elections should be held disagreed on the timing, with 39 percent saying as soon as possible, 15 percent – after Ukraine restores control over its border with Russia, and 33 percent – after Ukrainian troops regain full control over the territory, according to the poll findings. Thirteen per cent of respondents could not answer the question.

The poll was conducted in large Ukrainian cities with a population of over 100,000 people.
