You're reading: Poll: Vitali Klitschko as single opposition candidate has best chance of becoming Kyiv mayor

The largest number of residents of Kyiv would vote for UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko in a mayoral election if he were nominated as a single candidate from the UDAR, Batkivschyna and Svoboda parties, according to a poll conducted by the Razumkov Center.

Some 39.8% of all respondents or 49% of those who are planning to participate in the election are ready to vote for Klitschko.

A total of 20.9% of all respondents or 25.9% of those who intend to participate in the election are ready to vote for Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov.

According to the poll, the other possible candidates for Kyiv mayor have lower support from residents of Kyiv.

Some 2.5% of all respondents or 3.1% of those who plan to participate in the election are ready to vote for former Kyiv Mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko, 0.6% or 0.5% respectively for former Head of Shevchenkivska District State Administration in Kyiv Viktor Pylypyshyn, and 0.2% of all respondents and those who plan to participate in the election are ready to support former MP Vasyl Horbal.

The study was conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center in Kyiv from February 5 to February 13, 2013. A total of 1,622 respondents aged over 18 were interviewed. The poll’s margin of error is 2.5%.

Petro Poroshenko, a possible candidate from opposition for Kyiv mayor, was not listed in the poll, however.
