Member of Parliament Ivan Popesku has been reelected as head of the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the press service of the Party of Regions has reported, citing a member of the Ukrainian parliament's permanent delegation to PACE, Party of Regions MP Yulia Liovochkina.

“Yesterday none of the members of the Ukrainian delegation could come to Strasbourg on time because of bad weather, so our delegation did not meet yesterday. But today it was held, and as calmly as possible,” she said.

She said that two candidates were nominated for the post.

“Ivan Popesku was nominated from the majority and Serhiy Sobolev from the opposition. Party of Regions MP Ivan Popesku was elected head of the Ukrainian delegation by a simple majority and open vote. The candidacy of [Batkivschyna MP] Serhiy Sobolev was unanimously supported for the post of deputy head of the delegation,” Liovochkina said.

She added that according to the quotas, the principles and rules of procedure of the PACE the committees were also distributed between all members of the Ukrainian delegation.

“Due to this we will be able to work constructively at the PACE session in January,” the MP said.

Popesku headed the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the previous convocation to PACE.
