Eighty-five percent of Kyiv's roads, with a total area of 26 million square meters, have reached the end of their working lives, Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov has reported.

“The weather conditions showed up all the problems, and we have had the mass destruction of roads. It’s necessary to immediately conduct major repairs to 300,000 square meters of roads,” he said.

Director General of Kyivavtodor municipal corporation Heorhiy Hlynsky, in turn, reported that the unsatisfactory state of roads was caused by the quality of road and building materials, an increase in the intensity of traffic, and a lack of conformity of the norms for asphalt-concrete surfacing, given the present levels of traffic.

Moreover, Popov said that Holosiyivsky district of Kyiv decided to dismiss head of its road maintenance facility, while head of Sviatoshyne road maintenance facility had been given a month to resolve problems with the state of its roads.
